Update on plans

THE RECTOR:
Time is slipping by. Time for my three-month sabbatical once seemed far in
the distance, but no more. First I will do General Convention in Anaheim, returning in
time for the Bar-b-que. Then I will have one month before I leave.
Here is an overview of my plans. August 23 will be “send-off” Sunday. August
30th I will fly to Israel and travel to the north shore of the Sea of Galilee for 5 days
of retreat/refocus time. Then I go to Turkey for a two-week course on St. Paul and the
Early Church. After that, I fly to Budapest, where Susan, Sarah and Christopher will
join me. From Hungary we will go to Germany, Paris and on to Scotland, where the
Children will then return to the states.
Susan and I will go to Iona, then more of Scotland and Yorkshire, where the
Cowperthwaite name originated. We’ll then head for Italy for three weeks of work and
rest. We will finish our time abroad in Jerusalem, where we will take a two-week
course on the Palestine of Jesus, staying a few days longer for some mission/outreach
work. We will be back in time for Thanksgiving with my family, and a trip to Florida
to re-connect with Susan’s family. December 5th will be my first Sunday back at St.
Paul’s.
You will be able to follow my travels by going to our website: http://
www.stpaulsfranklin.com/ and follow the link on the left, Father Bob’s Sabbatical.
It will be more than a little interesting for me to be out of the saddle here, for
you as well! Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to make this possible, especially
for the grant from the Lilly Endowment, and Alex Wilkerson for help with the
travel details.
Bob
