Bob’s Sabbatical

            I just updated
the blog from yesterday – worship on Iona, so go back to read it.

Rainy, mostly cloudy – but some
blue sky as well, so ferry should be running today.  That is the good news this morning.  Bad news is an email from Alex saying that
our reservation for tonight was messed up by the owner of the B&B.  The only room available tonight has bathroom
across the hall (no one else will be using it), and we can move for the next
two nights.  Do we want that, or another
place for 1 night, or another place for all 3 nights.  We decide that 1 night with bath across the
hall will do.  Problem is that it is 2:30
in the morning in Franklin when we open the email and respond.  Surely Alex is asleep.  But no, she responds, and emails back, “now I
can sleep!”

            While
waiting for ferry, Susan befriends woman walking a Blenheim Cavalier King
Charles Spaniel.  We do miss Bishop!

            The 10:10
am ferry is right on time, and we leave Iona behind.  IMG_1074 Memorial cross - Rescue Squad and our house The picture is of the Fire Hall, memorial Cross, and our house, just behind and to the left of the Fire Hall The trip today back across Mull is much
nicer, since the sun is out today, and there is less wind.  More traffic however, which means driving
this single-lane road, with little pull-outs slows us down a good bit.  The landscape looks almost “pre-historic.”  IMG_1078 Mull Susan says, “you almost expect to see a
dinosaur come walking over one of these mountain-tops.” IMG_1076 Mussel farm Along the way we see one of the Mussel farms which provide those tender bites Susan had for supper last night.

            Catch
ferry back to Oban, and head south toward Helensburgh.  Much of this road is winding alongside Loch
Lomond (of song fame).  It is the largest
lake in the U.K., IMG_1090 Loch Lomand and marks the boundary between the Highlands and the
Lowlands, so we bid farewell to the unique and beautiful Highlands of Scotland.

            Lethamhill
house is eclectic, to say the least.  It
looks like one of Franklin’s antique shops, with stuff everywhere.  Everything from antiques to Betty Boop and
Elvis memorabilia.  We have a view of the
Firth of Clyde, which runs out to the Atlantic, from our window.  Jane, our hostess is warm and welcoming.  IMG_1094 Firth of Clyde sunset This will be a nice place to lie low for a
couple days.

            Peace,

              Bob

  2. See why I am never in the office early!!!!!
The hotel said they had lots of antiques....it sounds a little like The Regent in Oban. I hope you had a bedroom without Betty Boop or Elvis!!!
Loved the mussel farm....have you had cockles yet??
"Crying cockles and mussels, alive, alive-O!"
